July 6, 2008 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, needed Drew Hoisington's first career homerun to beat the Freedom by a score of 3-2.
Hoisington sent relief pitcher Mike Rocco's second pitch over the fence to give Washington the win in the bottom of the ninth inning. Hoisington's shot came just an inning after Washington blew a 2-0 lead.
Washington took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh when Brett Grandstrand and Phil Butch had a pair of sacrifice RBIs seperated by a Chris Sidick walk. The lead was eliminated in the next frame when Florence's Garth McKinney smacked a two-run homer to tie the game.
JJ Hollenbeck started for the Wild Things, pitching seven shutout innings and striking out four batters. Matt Maradeo closed the game for Washington, allowing the McKinney homerun, but striking out two batters in the top of the ninth before Hoisington's walk-off.
The Wild Things will start the second half of their 12-game home stretch on Tuesday night when they host the Gateway Grizzlies at 7:05. The Evansville Otters will visit CONSOL Energy Park for a series just before the July 14-17 All-Star Break.
