May 1, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
Tyler Bortnick's two-run single to right and a dominating bullpen led the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 6-5 victory over the York Revolution in the home opener in front of 6,795 Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Lancaster's second straight win improved the club to 3-5 on the season while York dropped to 3-4.
Keith Castillo opened the sixth inning with a walk from Joe Harris (0-1), and Lance Zawadzki looped a single to short center to put runners at first and second. Catcher Luis De La Cruz managed to get an out on Yusuke Kajimoto's bunt toward third. York manager Mark Mason went to right-hander Beau Vaughan to counter Bortnick. For the second time in the home-and-home series, Bortnick took Vaughan to right for a two-run single, giving the Barnstormers a 6-5 lead.
Scott Gracey (1-0) earned the win after tossing a scoreless top of the sixth. Nate Reed fanned the side in the seventh, and Bryan Woodall pinned the tying run at second in the eighth.
Jason Urquidez entered in the ninth and retired the top of the order in 1-2-3 fashion to earn his first save of the season.
York grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Singles by Brandon Jones and Mikey Reynolds put runners at first and second with two outs, and starter P.J. Walters walked Brandon Boggs to load the bases. Wilson Valdez yanked a line to left that eluded the diving try of Kevin Rivers, clearing the bases.
The Barnstormers were able to respond quickly. Rivers lined a single to center with one out in the bottom of the inning. He would score when Castillo launched a double past Boggs into the left center field alley. Castillo took third on Zawadzki's deep fly to left and scored when Kajimoto banged a single into center.
David Cooper tied the game with a single off the right field wall in the third, the club's third straight hit to start the inning. Brian Cavazos-Galvez followed Blake Gailen across the plate on a Henry Wrigley grounder to short for a 4-3 edge.
Homers by Eric Patterson and Bryan Pounds temporarily put York back on top.
Lancaster will host Southern Maryland on Friday night at 7:00. The Barnstormers will send Matt Packer (1-0) to the hill against right-hander Gaby Hernandez (1-0). Darren "Dutch" Daulton will appear on Relay for Life Night at the stadium. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
