May 1, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution fell for the second straight night as the guest in their opponent's home opener, and dropped their third straight overall as they were held to just two hits in a 3-1 setback at Somerset in front of 7,577 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night. The Revs fall to 3-5 on the season while the Patriots improve to 4-3, having won back-to-back games after dropping three straight of their own. York will look to even the series on Saturday night in central Jersey.
Somerset scored a first inning run to take an early lead. Jonny Tucker led things off with a triple to right field, but was caught between third and home for the first out on a failed squeeze bunt by Nate Spears. Somerset reset the table, however, as Thomas Neal singled to right, and after narrowly missing on a drive just foul off the right field wall, Chris Marrero settled for an RBI single up the middle to plate the game's first run.
Patriots starter Mickey Storey retired his first six batters including five in-a-row on strikeouts, but the Revs would draw even in the third as Johan Limonta launched a towering solo home run to right, his first of the year. It was the Revs' league-leading seventh long ball as a team, tying the score at 1-1.
Somerset went back in front with a run in the bottom of the fifth. David Vidal led things off with a double to left-center and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by James Skelton. With the infield drawn in, Tucker bounced an RBI single through the hole and into left, giving Somerset the 2-1 edge.
Marrero added to the Patriots lead with a line drive home run to left field to lead off the bottom of the sixth. It was his fourth hit and fourth RBI in a five at-bat span, after beginning the year 2-for-20.
Tucker also came alive for the Patriots, going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI single after entering the game 2-for-25 to begin the season.
Storey (1-0) allowed only one other hit, a one-out single to center by Brandon Boggs in the sixth. The righty retired 10 consecutive batters at one point, and allowed just two hits and one run in six innings. He walked one and struck out six, piling up his strikeouts in succession from his second through seventh outs of the game. Each of his final 11 outs recorded were put in play.
Revs starter Anthony Lerew became the first York starter to go six innings in a game this season, but suffered the loss. Lerew (1-1) was charged with three runs on eight hits. He did not walk a batter while striking out four.
Somerset's bullpen of Dan Sattler, Edwin Quirarte, and Jon Hunton combined to hold York hitless over the final three innings, with Hunton picking up his second save.
Notes: Limonta is the fourth different Revs player to hit a home run this season. The home run by Marrero off Lerew marked the first allowed by a Revs starter this year. Storey has now allowed just four hits and one run in 11.0 innings over his two starts. With three scoreless innings, Somerset's bullpen has allowed just one earned run in 26.0 innings to begin the season. Three of the Freedom Division's four teams lost on Friday, and at 3-5, the Revs remain just 1.5 games back in the division standings. York lefty Logan Williamson (0-1, 1.80) faces Somerset right-hander Randy Boone (0-1, 6.23) on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
