Schaumburg Boomers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Despite accumulating just five hits, the Schaumburg Boomers swept the Washington Wild Things to improve to 4-0 for the first time in franchise history with a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The hits were timely for the Boomers, who never trailed in the contest. Frank Pfister's single put Schaumburg ahead 1-0 in the third, driving across Ty Nelson. Washington evened the game in the fourth with a single run before Gerard Hall doubled home Craig Hertler in the fifth with the deciding tally.

Joe Parsons, a key reliever in 2012, won his first professional start, becoming the first starter to earn a decision this season. Parsons tossed five innings and allowed just one run on six hits with five strikeouts. James Bierlein stranded the tying run at third in the ninth to earn the save, his first. Bierlein struck out Washington pinch hitter Andrew Heck to end the game. Hertler posted two hits, stole a base, and scored a run from the ninth slot in the lineup. All three games of the series were decided by a single run.

The Boomers (4-0) will have back-to-back off days before venturing to the road for the first time this season on Wednesday. Schaumburg will travel to Florence, Ky. to meet the Florence Freedom in a doubleheader at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.
