Schaumburg Boomers News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - The Schaumburg Boomers kicked off a nine-game roadtrip by recording a 5-2 win over the top team in the league, the Evansville Otters, to break a five-game losing streak on Friday night.
Both starting pitchers battled into the middle of the contest. Schaumburg was able to get on the board first by scoring twice in the top of the sixth. Brett Milazzo and Alec Craig opened the inning with singles and moved up on a sacrifice from Matt McGarry. Chase Dawson put the Boomers on the board with a two-run single up the middle. Evansville was able to cut the deficit in half with an unearned run against Orlando Rodriguez in the bottom of the inning.
The Boomers added to the lead with three runs in the eighth. Craig was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on an error. Quincy Nieporte logged a two-run double to cap the scoring. Evansville brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth after scoring a run but could not complete the rally.
Rodriguez struck out eight in seven innings to grab his fourth win of the year, allowing just five hits and an unearned run. The offense posted nine hits with Craig, Dawson and Nieporte posting two apiece.
The Boomers (20-19) will continue the roadtrip on Saturday night when LHP Bryan Ketchie (0-2, 8.26) makes the start against RHP Austin Gossmann (2-2, 1.53). The team will return home on July 20. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
