Wild Things Sweep New Jersey

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Washington earned a series sweep over the New Jersey Jackals to conclude the weekday series Thursday at Wild Things Park, winning 2-1 behind a strong pitching performance for the third-straight evening.

Ben Vicini started the night with four innings of one-run ball in his first professional start, before Steven Colon made his professional debut with three scoreless frames and picked up the win in the process in the close affair.

James Meeker worked a scoreless eighth inning and Zach Strecker a perfect ninth to close it. Strecker earned his seventh save of the season in the outing and his 59th of his career, vaulting him into a tie for second place on the all-time Frontier League leaderboards with Frontier League Hall of Famer and former Wild Thing Jonathan Kountis.

The scoring started in the second inning when Hector Roa bounced out to shortstop allowing Bralin Jackson to score to give the Wild Things a 1-0 lead. In the third, the Jackals scored their only run on a sacrifice fly by Demetrius Moorer, a Point Park product. Washington took the lead it wouldn't give up in the sixth with Grant Heyman's 11th double of the campaign, scoring Nick Ward.

Each team had just three hits on the night. Washington will shift its focus after the sweep to a weekend series with the New York Boulders at Wild Things Park. Friday is a Fireworks Friday at the ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. McKenzie Mills will take the mound for the Wild Things.
