Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Wild Things plated four runs on four hits and with the help of two Kevonte Mitchell errors in right field in the bottom of the seventh of Friday's series opener and held on to win 4-2 to run their win streak to four games.
Ray Hernandez hit a two-run homer, his 10th of the season, to start the scoring in the fifth inning. It took until the seventh for Washington to get going, but it did so. After singles by Trevor Casanova and Brian Sharp, Nick Ward brought home Casanova with a base hit, on which the right fielder Mitchell missed the ball, allowing Sharp to score to tie the game. Grant Heyman knocked home Ward to give Washington the 3-2 lead it wouldn't give up before Bralin Jackson hit a sac fly that he reached on because of another Mitchell error, but the Wild Things didn't get anything else.
McKenzie Mills allowed just three hits in seven innings of two-run ball for his first win of the campaign, while James Mulry suffered the loss in relief. Alex Boshers, who was activated the other day, earned his first professional save in the victory with a one-two-three ninth. That was after Jesus Balaguer struck out three in a scoreless eighth inning of work.
Washington has won its fourth-straight contest and will shift its focus to tomorrow's middle game, on Negro League Tribute Night at the ballyard. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Josh Gibson bobblehead and the Wild Things will be wearing Homestead Greys-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off through mac.bid. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
