FLORENCE, Ky. - The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened a road series at Florence with a 5-1 win on Tuesday night.
Hunter Ackerman bounced back in a big way, working seven shutout innings. Ackerman did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and finished with five strikeouts. Jordan Dean handed Schaumburg a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the second to score Tyler Sciacca, who finished with two hits in the contest. Joe De Pinto drilled a two-run homer in the seventh to extend the lead, his first with the team. De Pinto tallied three hits as the Boomers collected 11. Dean added an RBI single in the eighth and Gerard Hall logged an RBI double in the ninth to cap the scoring.
The Boomers (31-24) play a split doubleheader with the Freedom on Wednesday. The first game is at 10:05 a.m. with game two at 5:35 p.m. RHP Eddie Cody (1-0, 2.07) received the ball in the opener with RHP Anthony Smith (4-1, 3.40) starting in game two.
