SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were shut out for the eighth time this season, dropping a 4-0 contest to the Evansville Otters in the opener of a weekend series.

Evansville grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second against All-Star Kagen Hopkins. Hopkins twirled a quality start by allowing just two earned runs in six innings of work. Evansville also placed an All-Star on the hill and Tyler Vail spun seven shutout frames. Neither team was able to manage much offensively with both combining for only five hits. Jordan Dean posted two hits for the Boomers, who placed just three runners in scoring position in the contest.

The Boomers (26-33) continue a busy weekend on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. RHP Brett Mabry (0-2, 6.88) returns from injured reserve to start the game for Schaumburg opposite a former Boomer LHP Hunter Ackerman (3-2, 3.65). The night features tons of fun with an appearance from the ZOOperstars as part of Jimmy Buffett Night presented by Glenmark.
