Joliet Slammers News Release
JOLIET, IL- The rain just would not hold off Thursday night and ultimately rained out the game between the Slammers and the Southern Illinois Miners. The score was 7-7 when the game was called.
The game will be continued in Southern Illinois when the Slammers and Miners square off again.
Each team had a three-run inning and a four-run inning. The Miners came out of the gates hot against the Slammers starting pitcher Liam O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan came into the game with a perfect 6-0 record and a 2.94 ERA. He was given the no-decision.
It wasn't O'Sullivan's strongest start as he was charged with all seven runs. He was still in the game when it was called.
The Slammers rallied with two outs in the bottom of the first inning and put up four runs on Southern Illinois' top pitcher Dan Ludwig.
Jake Gronsky was the biggest force for the Slammers in the shortened game driving in three runs. Phil Bates, Alfredo Rodriguez, Carter Bell, Joe Staley and Marc Flores all drove runs in the game.
Joe Staley has had two strong games in a row. He has driven in four runs in the past two games.
The rain was unfortunate as they looked to be playing much better and performing better at the plate than the previous two games.
Southern Illinois' four-run inning came in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead on the Slammers, but the Slammers came back strong in the bottom half of the inning to score three runs and the game tied up.
Joliet will begin a nine-game home-stand starting Tuesday against Evansville.
