Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Green Bay, WI- The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (21-21, 2-4) lost for the second straight night because of a big inning. The Bullfrogs', Boomer White, added a double, single, and grand slam to lead the way for Green Bay in an easy 8-5 win Wednesday evening at Joeannes Stadium over the Rafters. The three-hit night against the Rafters was part of six-RBI performance for White.

The Rafters had an offensive spark of their own as Donnie Dewees led the way for the Rafters with his first four hit evening of the season. The four hits included a two home run night for Dewees, his first multi home run game of the season, and the Rafters first sense Jackson Slaid accomplished the feat on July 3 at Witter Field against the same Bullfrogs.

Taylor Stell got the Rafters out to an early lead when the Texas sophomore led the game off by reaching on his 11th extra base hit of the season. Slaid added to his team-leading RBI total when the Junior drove in his 32nd RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Rafters the lead, 1-0.

The Bullfrogs struck back with a run of their own in the second when Nick Torres doubled to right field and scored on a fielder's choice when the Rafters' Griffin Glaude took a ground ball and was late to the plate as Torres hustled home to beat the throw home. The score was 1-1.

Dewees put the Rafters back on top when the Osprey hit his first home run of the night. The home run regained the lead for the Rafters, 2-1.

Green Bay sent seven men to the plate in the third inning as the Bullfrogs used a big two-run double by White to jump ahead 3-2 after Robert Youngdahl reached on a walk and Jimmy Coady singled to left field. The extra base hit by White game the Bullfrogs the lead for good.

Glaude dacned around trouble in the fourth when the Rafters starter used back-to-back strikeouts in the fourth with the bases loaded to secure first and second outs of the inning. The two strikeouts brought White to the plate. White, with a 3-2 count, raked his third home run of the season and first grand slam on a fastball that sailed over the left field wall. The home run secured a six-RBI night for the Bullfrogs catcher and extended the lead, 8-2.

The Rafters would respond with a three-run fifth inning when George Ragsdale and Stell reached on back-to-back singles to open the fifth. Dewees added his second home run of the night when he clubbed a first-pitch fastball over the right field wall. The home successfully closed the gap, 8-5.

The three-run home run would be the final runs of the game as both offenses when silent for the second half of the game. The Rafters, Derek Kawalski, twirled 3 2/3 innings pitched without giving up a run, but it wasn't enough as the Rafters registered just four hits after the fourth.

The win ended a seven game losing streak for Green Bay and gave the club their first win of the season half. The two teams will resume a home-and-home series tomorrow evening when the two clubs meet for the sixth time this season at Witter Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can listen to tomorrow nights broadcast by tuning into the leagues NWL YouTube channel or listen to the radio broadcast on WFHR AM 1320.
