
Blue Anchors Fall to Bucks 7-1

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Waterloo Bucks Tuesday night 7-1 at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. Now the the Anchors have a 1-4 record in the second half and are 11-28 overall.
Waterloo jumped on the board early against Chase Rihtarchik in the second inning. With one out, Kyle Pollock hit a solo homer to centerfield putting the Bucks up 1-0.
In the top of the third, the Bucks added on. Connor McClain hit a 2-2 offering over the fence for another solo home run to start the inning making the score 2-0. Chesney Young walked but was out at second on a fielder's choice by David Kerian. John Ziznewski singled to center and Kris Goodman tried to throw out Kerian at third but his throw got away allowing Kerian to score the Bucks third run. Pollock singled in Ziznewski extending Waterloo's lead to 4-0.
The Anchors got their lone run against Jacob Stone in the bottom of the third inning. Goodman walked to start the frame and Andrew Sohn was hit by a pitch. Goodman and Sohn pulled off a double steal before Tim Cusick walked to load the bases. Michael Barash lifted a ball into center deep enough to score Goodman on a sacrifice fly, cutting Waterloo's lead to 4-1.
Mickie Keuning came in relief to start the sixth inning and he walked Marcos Calderon to start the inning. Will Sparks went deep to center for a two-run home run giving the Bucks a 6-1 advantage.
The Bucks got another insurance run in the top of the eighth, this time against Andy Johnson. Sparks was hit by a pitch and two outs later, he went to second when Connor McClain was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position and it appeared the inning would be scoreless but an error by shortstop Tyler Curtis brought in Sparks making the score 7-1.
Rihtarchik (3-1) received his first loss of the season going five innings allowing four runs on seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Before retired a batter, Keuning gave up two runs on one hits and three walks. A couple of double plays got Scott Sanderson out of trouble in his two innings of work. He allowed just two walks. In two innings, Johnson surrendered one runs, zero earned, on one hits a walk with three punch outs.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Michael Barash (C) - The Blue Anchor backstop was one of the few bright spots in Tuesday's game. He finished with two hits in three at bats and had the lone RBI for Alexandria.
Notes: Goodman extended his hitting streak to seven games...Goodman scored his 29th run of the season which is tops for the Anchors...
