Huskies Use Big Innings to Defeat Honkers

(Rochester, MN) - The Duluth Huskies scored at least four runs in three different innings in a 14-7 win over the Rochester Honkers on Wednesday July 10 at Wade Stadium in Duluth, MN.

Michael Suiter, Brad Wilson, and Christopher Harvey started the bottom of the second inning with consecutive base hits. Conor Szczerba, Kyle Teaf, and Christoph Bono each picked up a RBI later in the inning to fuel a four-run inning for the Huskies.

Duluth took advantage of a pair of Rochester errors and added six more runs in the bottom of the third inning to increase the lead to 10-0. Christopher Harvey and Keith Curcio each delivered two-run singles in the inning.

After being shut out for 4.1 innings by Honkers relief pitcher Brian Schwarzbach (Pennsylvania,) the Huskies offense added four runs to their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning off of Stephen Paladino (Felician College.)

Max Murphy (Bradley) started the top of the ninth inning off by belting his first homerun since joining the team last week, to put the Honkers on the scoreboard. Michael Pomeroy (Grand Canyon University,) Tyler Baker (Wichita State,) and Jared Deacon (Cal State Fullerton) each singled, while Kevin Barker (UC Davis) and Mike Friel (Hofstra) were both hit by pitches, and Reid Roper (Illinois) drew a bases loaded walk to give the Honkers four runs without making an out in the inning. Murphy would later deliver a two-out, bases clearing double to cap off the seven-run inning.

Murphy led the Honkers offense by going 2-for-5 with a homerun, a double, and four RBI. Every player in the Honkers starting lineup collected a hit on the night.

Parker Trewin picked up the win (1-1) for the Huskies. He allowed three hits in six shutout innings. Brandon Stennis (Doane College) took the loss (2-3) for the Honkers, as he allowed ten runs, seven earned, on ten hits in 2.2 innings.

Rochester (0-7, 18-24) will look to pick of its first win of the second half of the season on Thursday July 11 at 6:35 in Duluth (5-2, 25-17.) Tyler Eppler (Sam Houston State) is slated to make the start for the Honkers. Rochester will return home to Mayo Field on Friday, July 12 at 7:05 p.m. to host the Willmar Stingers. Friday is jersey night, presented by Wells Fargo; so the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free jersey.
