Green Bay Rockers News Release
Battle Creek, MI - July 20th, 2011 - After scoring a tying run in the eighth inning, a wild pitch brought in the winning run for the Battle Creek Bombers on Wednesday evening in Michigan. The Bombers would walk-off in the ninth inning with a 3-2 victory in game one of a two-game series.
Green Bay was down by a run headed to the eighth inning on Wednesday. With one out Jonathon Walsh hit a double. He went 2-4 and now has eight hits in the last three games. After Duncan McAlpine flew out, the Bombers brought in their closer Kristian Calibuso who is tied for the league lead with seven saves. The first batter he faced with two outs and Walsh now on third base was Jacob May. The second baseman May hit a two ball and two strike flare into left field for the game-tying single.
In the ninth Ryne Otis began things off with a single to right field. Bryce Redecker then stepped in and put together a 13 pitch at-bat that culminated in a strikeout. However, on the 13th pitch Otis stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher Ryan Schilter. Jimmy Martinez worked a two ball and two strike count with one out before A.J. Gaura threw a wild pitch that allowed the winning run to score as Green Bay fell 3-2.
Gaura was in his second inning of work after he escaped a jam in the eighth. With the game tied at two, Jordan Dean led off with a single and reached second on an error by right fielder Phillip Ervin with four All-Stars due up. Gaura would strike out both Dan Dispensa and Troy White. After a walk to Daniel Rockett Gaura got another All-Star to pop out to the second baseman to end the inning and keep the game tied.
Zak Hermans started for the 'Frogs and threw well in the no decision despite struggling with the command of his break ball. However, Hermans battled through five innings in upper 90's heat and allowed just two runs while striking out five. Hermans gave up both runs in the third inning on three consecutive base hits. Jimmy Martinez led off with a double before Rhett Goodmiller drove him in with an RBI triple. The lead-off hitter Jordan Dean then gave the Bombers the lead with an infield single.
Green Bay had taken the lead in the top of the third inning on a solo home run from Jonathan Walsh. The Bullfrogs will wrap up a two-game series on Thursday with ace Tim Giel on the mound starting at 6:05 PM CST.
