Boise Errors Prove Costly, as Hillsboro Beats Hawks 5-2

August 31, 2018 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Boise Hawks News Release

The Boise Hawks (33-38, 12-22) fell to the Hillsboro Hops (48-24, 24-10) by a final score of 5-2 on Thursday night. The Hawks made two errors in the 4th inning, allowing three runs to score, and they could never come back.

Boise now has to win the final four games of the season, and will need Salem-Keizer to lose tomorrow, to even have a shot at the Northwest League playoffs.

In the 2nd inning, Willie MacIver was able to open up the scoring for either team. With Danny Edgeworth on second-base and one out, MacIver singled through the middle and scored Edgeworth to make it 1-0 Boise.

In the 4th inning though, the Hawks had some trouble defensively. Boise had two opportunities to get out of the inning still leading 1-0, but they committed two errors and it resulted in three runs for the Hops.

LeeMarcus Boyd committed the first as he dropped a throw from his first baseman Edgeworth that would have started a double play at second base. The second error was on Trey Jacobs. With the bases-loaded, Jacobs got a groundball at 3rd. He fielded it, tapped third-base to get one out, but his throw to first-base allowed a run to score as he air-mailed it over his first-baseman's head.

Dan Swain came up with a runner on third base and made it a 3-1 lead when he singled. All three runs were not earned against Jeffri Ocando, as Boise's starter finishes the night going six innings without allowing an earned run.

The Hawks added a run in the 5th. After Cole Anderson doubled, it was LeeMarcus Boyd with his first triple of the year to make it a one-run game at just 3-2 Hillsboro.

But the Hops tacked on two more runs in the 9th inning, as it was an RBI for David Garza Jr on a groundout, and than an RBI-infield hit for Jorge Perez to make it 5-2 Hops.

The Hawks couldn't score any runs off Troy Scribner, on Rehab Assignment with Hillsboro, as the right-hander who threw in the big leagues this year, went four innings of scoreless baseball to end the game and get Hillsboro a 5-2 victory.

Matt Tabor picks up the win for Hillsboro as he goes to 2-1 on the season.

Boise will return tomorrow to take on the Hillsboro Hops at 7:15 p.m. MT for the final game of the series. There will be a Postgame Fireworks Show and it will be Friends and Family Night.
