Bobby Convey Named to U.S. Roster for Poland Match

CHANTILLY, VA (March 24, 2004) - D.C. United midfielder Bobby Convey was named today by U.S. National Team Manager Bruce Arena to the 19-man roster that will face the Polish National Team on March 31 in Plock, Poland. The match will be broadcast live at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, and fans can follow the match live online via ussoccer.com's MatchTracker, presented by Philips Electronics.

"We're excited that Bobby has been selected to the roster yet again," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "Bobby's continued inclusion in the National Team speaks well to his development and skill."

Convey, who currently has 21 caps, makes his third appearance with the senior side in 2004, and led the U.S. U-23 team in scoring at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. He continues as a stalwart for the U.S. MNT, having appeared in 18 of the last 19 matches played by the full side.

Convey, 20, completed his fourth professional season with United in 2003. He appeared in 21 matches for the Black-and-Red, including his first-ever playoff appearance on November 1st. Convey finished the season with five points, notching two goals and an assist. He also scored the game-winning goal in D.C. United's 2-1 defeat of the Charleston Battery to open play in the Carolina Challenge Cup.

Poland will make a return visit to the United States, facing the U.S. MNT on July 11, 2004 in Chicago, IL. The U.S. begins CONCACAF World Cup 2006 qualifying on June 13, 2004, as they host Grenada, with a return leg to Grenada scheduled for June 20. The U.S. also has friendly matches scheduled for April 28 and May 26, with the opponents and sites to be announced at a later date.
