Blues, Aces Renew Affiliation
October 4, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - For the third consecutive year, the Alaska Aces have entered into an affiliation agreement, agreeing to terms on a one-year deal with the St. Louis Blues and its AHL affiliate the Peoria Rivermen.
The Blues enjoy a rich tradition in the NHL, appearing in three consecutive Stanley Cup Finals from 1968-70 under the direction of legendary head coach Scotty Bowman and making a late push for the playoffs last year before settling for a 10th-place finish with a team generally considered to be one of the rising powers in the Western Conference. St. Louis enters the third year of its five-year affiliation agreement with the Peoria Rivermen in 2007-08. The Rivermen narrowly missed a spot in the AHL Calder Cup playoffs last season, having been eliminated on the regular season's final day.
"The relationship with the Blues and Rivermen has been instrumental in our success over the last two years," said Alaska head coach Keith McCambridge. "We've been pleased to work with such a professional group at the game's highest levels while offering our players an opportunity for advancement through our organization."
"Our relationship with the Alaska Aces has been very successful dating back to 2001. The Aces are a very important part to our continued success in our player development process," said St. Louis Blues president John Davidson.
Alaska has finished second, first, and second overall in the ECHL over the last three years, advancing to at least the conference finals in all three seasons and winning the Kelly Cup in 2006. The Aces will play host to a pair of pre-season games against Texas October 10 and 11 at 7:15 p.m., with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Alaska chapter of the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Focus, Inc. The Aces open the regular season at Fresno October 23 and their home schedule November 2, in the opener of a three-game series against American Conference finalist Florida.
