Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Phantoms head coach Craig Berube announced Thursday that veteran right wing Boyd Kane has been named the eighth captain in team history. In addition, the team also announced that goaltenders Martin Houle and Jeremy Duchesne have been reassigned by the Philadelphia Flyers to the team's ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers, and that defenseman Chad Anderson has been signed to an American Hockey League contract.
Kane, 29, is entering his 10th year of professional hockey and fourth in the Flyers organization. He first came to Philadelphia in 2003 as a free agent and played two seasons before signing with the Washington Capitals organization in the summer of 2005. He returned to the Flyers as a free agent in the summer of 2006.
Kane becomes the first player in team history to be named captain of the Phantoms after previously serving in the role. He was the captain of the Phantoms 2005 Calder Cup championship team, and went on to captain the Hershey Bears to the 2006 title. He became the first player in nearly 20 years to captain different clubs to the championship in consecutive seasons.
Last year, Kane served as an alternate captain while posting 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points in 57 games. He also appeared in 15 games for the Flyers, posting two assists.
Houle, an eighth-round selection (232nd overall) of the Flyers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, has appeared in 77 games for the Phantoms over the past two seasons. Last year the 22-year-old posted a record of 12-17-2 with a 3.32 GAA and a save percentage of .893.
A fourth-round selection (119th overall) of the Flyers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Duchesne is entering his rookie professional season. Last year, he led Val d'Or to the President's Cup finals in the QMJHL, posting an 11-7-0 record in 18 games with a 2.90 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Duchense will turn 21 on October 17.
Anderson, 25, joins the Phantoms after completing a four-year career at Alaska-Anchorage. The 6-4, 217-pound blueliner is coming off a senior season where he posted a career-high seven goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 34 games.
