Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

A night after playing an 18 inning, six hour and 42 minute contest, the longest in Atlantic League history, the Blue Crabs dropped their second in a row at home to the Bridgeport Bluefish on Saturday night by an 8-1 final. With the win, the Bluefish improve to 25-23 in the second half and are 58-60 on the season after also claiming last night's marathon by a 9-6 score. The Blue Crabs dropped to 29-17 on the '09 campaign and are 71-45 overall. The only run of the night for Southern Maryland came in the bottom of the seventh inning, after the Blue Crabs loaded the bases with nobody out with three consecutive singles to start the inning from Ken Harvey, James Shanks and Jeremy Owens. With one out, catcher Octavio Martinez rapped an RBI single to right field, cutting the Bridgeport lead to 8-1. The Bluefish jumped on top early and would not come close to relinquishing their lead. After a one-out single in the top of the second, former Blue Crab Enohel Polanco eventually scored on a Martinez throwing error. Bridgeport would add on with an RBI double by Wilson Batista in the fifth, and capped the night with a six-run seventh inning highlighted by a two-run double from Jesse Hoorelbeke and a three-run homer from Luis Rodriguez, his fifth of the season. Bluefish starter Gary Knotts, who has pitched at the Major League level with the Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers, fired a complete game to improve to 5-8. The right-hander allowed nine hits, walking just one with 10 strikeouts. After winning his last five decisions in a row, Blue Crabs lefty Keith Ramsey took the loss dropping to 5-2 in his 10th start since re-joining Southern Maryland for a second season. Ramsey tossed 6.1 innings allowing 10 hits, seven runs, six of which were earned, with two walks and four strikeouts.
