
BlueClaws Win in Extra Innings over Suns

LAKEWOOD, N.J. â The Lakewood BlueClaws (3-9) scored twice in the bottom half of the 12 inning for a 7-6 win over the first place Hagerstown Suns (9-3). Sam Orr lined a base hit into the right-field corner to score Brad Harman from third.
The BlueClaws jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after two innings with three runs in the first and two more in the second. Harman connected for a two run double to put the BlueClaws up 2-0, then Jayson Drobiak followed up with and RBI double and the BlueClaws led 3-0 after one.
In the second inning John Hardy reached with a one out single, then Greg Golson followed up a double. Sean Gamble then came up with the big hit in the inning with a two run triple to put the BlueClaws up 5-0.
The BlueClaws offense was quieted the rest of the night by the Captains pitching, after collecting seven hits in the first two innings, Lakewood did not record another hit until the bottom of the 12.
The Captains plated a run in the fourth and three more in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4. Hagerstown tied the game up at 5-5 in the eighth inning on Mike Carp's one-out solo homer, his third off BlueClaws pitching over the last four meetings.
Hagerstown took their first lead of the game in the 12 inning when Ryan Coultes scored from third on Orr's throwing error to first.
The top of the 12 inning began with a base hit by Gamble, then he advanced to third when the Suns right-fielder Carlos Gomez misplayed the ball and it rolled all the way to the wall. The BlueClaws tied the game at 6-6 when Gamble scored on Harman's RBI double.
Gamble finished 2-for-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Harman was 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.
The BlueClaws are back in action tonight for Game two against their arch rival and the first place team in the Northern Division, the Hagerstown Suns, affiliate of the New York Mets. Tonight the first 2000 fans through the gates receive a batting helmet courtesy of UTZ Quality Foods. First pitch is at 6:35 P.M. with on-air time at 6:20 P.M. on WADB 1310 AM.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the other great promotions this year, fireworks after every Friday night home game sponsored by Toyota World / Scion World of Lakewood. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and Mets.
