Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA- Third baseman Grant Plumley hit a solo homerun in the top of the third and centerfielder Tim Battle smacked a two-run homer over the centerfield wall to lead the Charleston RiverDogs to a 7-4 victory over the Columbus Catfish at Golden Park. Catfish catcher Juan Apodaca and shortstop Lucas May each recorded three hits and designated hitter Blake DeWitt had three RBI to lead the offensive charge for Columbus.

In the top of the fifth inning, Battle took the 1-1 offering from Weeden to the left field side over the centerfield wall at Golden Park. He was only the fourteenth player since 1951 to hit a ball over the wall in center and the first since Rome¹s Ardley Jansen on July 13, 2004 off of Jonathan Figueroa.

The Catfish scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Apodaca singled up the middle to drive in May with the first run and DeWitt smoked a three-run double over Battle¹s head to produce Columbus with its offense.

The Catfish play the final game of their first home stand tomorrow against the RiverDogs at 11:00am. Tomorrow¹s early start is contributed to the first ³get-away² day of the season and Columbus¹ Baseball in Education Day. Students from around the area will be treated not only to a baseball game, but educational venues set up throughout the concourse.
