Hagerstown Suns News Release

Lakewood, NJ:A day after losing in West Virginia on their opponent's last at-bat, the same thing happened to the Suns again Monday night in Lakewood. An RBI single by the Blueclaws Sam Orr in the bottom of the 12th gave the Suns their second straight heart wrenching loss, 7-6.

What goes around comes around I guess. Hagerstown (9-3) had beaten both West Virginia and Lakewood this year with final inning heroics. Now everyone's even. The loss marked the first time the Suns had gone to extra innings this year.

The Suns had started the game by falling behind 5-0, while giving up seven hits after the first two innings. The Suns pitchers then held Lakewood (3-9) hitless until the 12th, which is when they grouped together three hits off Marcelo Perez to win it. It was the Suns second straight blown save. The game was marred by six errors and 10 walks combined by the two teams. If not for some generous official scoring, each team could have easily had five errors apiece.

Mike Carp hit his league leading fifth homer of the year to tie the game at 5-5 in the eighth and send it to extras. The Suns had scored three times in the seventh to bring it to 5-4 Lakewood, and the big blow was a two run single by Dante Brinkley. Ryan Coultas also had two hits and scored twice in a losing cause.

Tuesday the Suns send RHP Jeff Landing up against Lakewood's LHP Derrek Griffith at 6:35pm. The next Suns home game is Friday, April 22nd against Delmarva at 6:35pm on US Cellular Fireworks Night.
