Lake County Captains News Release
(Salisbury, MD)âDelmarva's Quincy Ascencion slapped a two-run double in the fifth inning Tuesday night, lifting the Delmarva Shorebirds to a 4-2 win over visiting Lake County at Arthur Perdue Stadium.
Ascencion's double off Captains righthander Adrian Schau (0-1) gave the Shorebirds a 3-2 lead. Jake Duncan walked to lead off the inning and went to third on a double by Pete Maestrales. Ascencion then doubled off the wall in left to drive in both runners. After Schau was lifted in favor of Kyle Collins, Arturo Rivas singled up the middle to score Ascencion for a 4-2 lead.
Delmarva's Kevin Hart (1-0) started and worked six strong innings for the Shorebirds (8-4). Hart scattered five hits and allowed two runs. Hart got relief help from Carlos Jan, who tossed two scoreless innings, and lefty David Haehnel, who worked the ninth for his sixth save.
The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Argenis Reyes singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and came home on a ground out by Wyatt Toregas. Juan Valdes drove in the other Captains run with an RBI single in the fourth.
Captains starter Dan Cevette left the game after working 2 2/3 innings, and giving up one run. He allowed a solo homer to Francisco Guerrero leading off the second inning. The next hitter, Delmarva catcher Matt Houston, hit a one-hopper up the middle that ricocheted off Cevette's left hand. The ball bounced to second baseman Marshall Szabo, who threw Houston out at first base. Cevette continued through the second, but walked two hitters in he third before being replaced by Schau.
The Captains (8-4) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. The Captains and Shorebirds will play game two of the series on Wednesday morning at 10:35 (WELW AM 1330).
