BlueClaws Rally, Win in 11 Over Suns

Hagerstown, MD – The Lakewood BlueClaws (18-37) and the Hagerstown Suns (33-20), Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, wrapped up their series Thursday night with Lakewood winning 6-3. The BlueClaws connected for three homers in the game and plated three runs in the top of the 11th for a series split with the first place Suns.

Sam Orr led off the 11th with a base hit, then with one out Doug Gredvig walked and Ryan Frith reached on an error and Lakewood had the bases loaded. Chris Klemm then grounded to the first baseman Mike Carp who elected to come home for the play at the plate. Orr slid under the tag and Lakewood took a 4-3 lead. The BlueClaws tacked on two more runs on RBI base hit's from R.T. Plumsky and Timi Moni.

Jacob Barrack (4-1) pitched the final two frames in relief for the win allowing no walks and no hits while striking out four. Maximino De La Cruz got the no decision allowing three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four over eight innings.

Hagerstown led 3-2 heading into the top of the ninth but the BlueClaws tied it up at 3-3 when Jason Jaramillo connected for a one-out solo homer.

Lakewood trailed 2-0 entering the fifth inning before cutting the lead in half on a lead off solo homer from Gredvig. The solo-shot was Gredvig's second of the year and second in the series. The BlueClaws tied it up in the seventh inning again on a lead off homer, this time from Orr. Orr's blast was his team leading eighth of the year and pushed his team leading RBI total to 37.

Orr finished the night 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a homer and an RBI. Gredvig went 1-for-3 with a homer, an RBI and two runs scored. Gredvig also had two walks in the game.

Hagerstown took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Ambiorix Concepcion connected for a solo homer. The Suns increased the lead to 2-0 in the third. With the bases loaded and nobody out Wilson Batista grounded into a double play scoring Aaron Hathaway from third.

The BlueClaws return home Friday night for a six game home stand beginning with four against the West Virginia Power, Single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Lakewood will send right-hander Andy Baldwin (1-3, 4.20) to the mound. The Power will counter with right-hander Brian Montalbo (1-2, 4.98). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
