I's Drop Both in Double Header

Kannapolis, NC – Weather threatened the start of both games in the Intimidators double header with Rome. The I's may wish that the rain came earlier. Kannapolis was able to play and lose both games 7-3 and 3-1. After tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, the I's bullpen yielded four runs in the top of the eighth inning. RHP John Hurd (2-2) took the loss. RHP Arthur Santos (1-0) got the victory. In game two, LHP Ray Liotta was outdueled by RHP Luis Atilano. Liotta allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with an uncharacteristic four walks. Meanwhile Atilano held the I's hitless through four innings and gave up just one run on two hits. Atilano got the win (5-3). Liotta lost his first game of the year (4-1). Dan Smith tossed an innings and a third for his 4th save.

The Intimidators had late chances to win both games. In the seventh inning of game one, Kannapolis tied the game on a Ryan McCarthy RBI double with just one out. McCarthy was moved to third on a fly out to right by Francisco Hernandez. The I's stranded the potential winning run at third.

In the second game, K-town put the tying runs on base with just one out but could not score either. The Intimidators fall to 28-26 with the two losses and take a major hit in their bid for a playoff spot. The I's will need a strong showing in their four game series with Augusta starting Friday evening at 7:05. RHP Adam Russell (2-3 3.97) takes the ball for Kannapolis.
