Suns Lose in 11 Innings
Published on June 2, 2005 under South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release
It was a game that featured the league-leader in wins against the league-leader in losses, but the pitchers' duel that resulted showed no such disparity.
Jose Sanchez's bid for his 10th win of the season went over the right field wall with Jason Jaramillo's homerun in the top of the ninth inning. It was Sanchez's longest outing of the season, but his second no decision of the year as the Suns lost 6-3.
Blueclaw pitcher Maximo De La Cruz went 8 innings and allowed just 3 runs, bearing no resemblance to the man who had lost 7 decisions in 2005.
In extra innings, the Blueclaws scored three unearned runs in the top of the 11th, and Hagerstown could not answer in their half of the inning.
The Suns opened up the scoring for the first time in six games, behind a solo homerun by Ambiorix Concepcion. the Suns would score again in the next inning only to watch that lead evaporate after two solo homeruns by Lakewood.
A zany play in the seventh inning scored Jesus Flores and gave the Suns the lead back, but Carlos Muniz could not convert his 12th save of the season, allowing the homerun to Jaramillo.
The loss was the Suns third in six games and third on the season for Kevin Mannix. Blueclaw Jacob Barrack pitched for the second day in a row, and picked up the win striking out 4 batters.
The Suns take to the road next for a 4-day, 5-game series against the Lexington Legends. Prior to the first game, the two teams will complete the suspended contest they had on May 24. Following the conclusion of that game, which was halted after the 11th inning, the two teams will play a nine-inning game.
The Suns are back in town on an Old Time Tuesday and Senior Night, presented by Bankers Insurance (Michael Barnes and Karen Wilt), June 7 against the Lake County Captains. Stop by or call the Suns offices at 301-791-6266 for tickets.
