Lakewood, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (14-27) lost to the Hagerstown Suns (27-14), Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, 2-1 at FirstEnergy Park on Thursday night. Carlos Gomez led off the top of 10th with a solo-homer to put the Suns on top 2-1.
Lakewood trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh inning before tying the score at 1-1. Jason Jaramillo led off the inning with a double off reliever Tim Worthington. Ryan Frith then reached on a bunt single moving Jaramillo up to third. Worthington tried to throw Frith out on the play but the throw sailed wide of first and went into the BlueClaws bullpen allowing Jaramillo to score to tie the game.
Lakewood had the potential winning run on third base in the eighth and ninth inning but could not score the winning run. In the eighth inning Timi Moni reached on a base hit then stole second to get in scoring position with nobody out. Moni advanced to third on the sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Dzurilla but was left stranded at third.
In the 10th inning the BlueClaws again had the winning run on base at second with the tying run on at third and one out. Carlos Muniz (S, 10) got Jaramillo to ground out and Frith to strikeout to end the game.
In the ninth the BlueClaws had bases loaded with one out but back-to-back strikeouts by John Hardy and Moni forced the game into extra innings.
The Suns took the early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI double from Ryan Coultas scoring Tyler Davidson from second.
Neither starter got a decision in the game with Lakewood's J.A. Happ pitching seven innings and allowing one run on five hits while walking two and striking out eight.
