Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. – At the conclusion of the second game of Thursday's doubleheader the Savannah Sand Gnats gathered at the pitcher's mound to celebrate a victory. One thing though, Savannah registered nary a hit in their 4-3 triumph.

Down 2-0 going into the bottom of the third, Savannah strung together a four-run frame with little more than Scotch Tape and bubblegum. After leadoff hitter Trey Webb lead off the inning with a fly out to center, seven of the next eight Gnats reached base via five walks and two hit batsmen. Throw in a stolen base and a couple of wild pitches and Savannah had plated seven runs without registering a base knock.

In perhaps the most unique pitching line ever, Greenville reliever Jesus Delgado went one-third of an inning, surrendering two runs on four walks, a hit batsmen and two wild pitches. Gnats manager Randy Knorr, a veteran of 20 years of professional ball was dumbfounded by the outcome. "It was good coaching," Knorr joked.

Savannah starter Steven Cook picked up the win and closer Bret Campbell picked up his ninth save. The snake-bitten Delgado was saddled with the loss.

In game one, the Gnats fell to Greenville 5-3 in a relative snoozer. Daryl Thompson fell to 2-2 with Greenville's Scott Shoemaker picking up the complete-game victory.

The Gnats and Bombers face off in the final contest of the four-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. For tickets log onto www.sandgnats.com or call 912-351-9150.
