Captains Lose Fourth Straight

(Eastlake, OH)--Juan Figueroa's RBI single in the eighth inning lifted the Greensboro Grasshoppers to a 3-1 win over the Lake County Captains Thursday night at Classic Park.

It was the fifth straight win for Greensboro, and the fourth straight loss for Lake County. It is the longest losing streak of the season for the Captains.

Figueroa's single up the middle off T.J. Burton (3-4)in the eighth broke a 1-1 tie. After Burton surrendered one-out singles to Brian Cleveland and Steve Gendron, Figueroa singled to center, scoring Cleveland from second. When Captains centerfielder Juan Valdes overran the ball for an error, Gendron scored from first base to make it 3-1.

The Greensboro bullpen did the rest. Scott Nestor (2-2) picked up the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth. Matt Yourkin struck out Fernando Pacheco in the eighth with a man on, and closer Chris Mobley posted his 12th save with a perfect ninth.

Greensboro relievers have tossed 13 2/3 scoreless innings in the series against the Captains (21-19).

The Captains scored their only run in the fourth when Pacheco clubbed a sacrifice fly to score Wyatt Toregas, who had reached on an error. Pacheco went 0-2 to end his 13 game hitting streak.

Captains starter Reid Santos gave up just one run in six innings. He walked none and struck out five.

Cleveland had three hits for the Grasshoppers (25-15), including an RBI single off Santos in the third.

The Captains will attempt to avoid the sweep on Friday night at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330, Adelphia Channel 15).
