Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Kannapolis, NC – After 3 hours and 24 minutes of trying to hit guys in, Nick Capra dipped into his bag of tricks and beat Delmarva with a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 13th inning 1-0. With Ryan McCarthy at third, Sean Smith at first, and Boomer Berry at the plate against one of the best relievers in the South Atlantic League, McCarthy took off towards the plate and Berry got the ball down in play for the victory.

The dramatic finish almost overshadowed the dominant pitching that commanded the game through 12 and a third innings. RHP Lucas Harrell (1-4) commanded all three of his pitches taking a perfect game into the sixth and a no hitter to the eighth. An infield single by Quincy Ascencion finally broke it up. Harrell, Matt Zaleski, John Hurd, Leo Mayi, and Oneli Perez combined to shut out the Shorebirds through 13 innings. Perez got the win and moves to 2-0.

David Haehnal takes the first loss of his season. In 15 prior appearances Haehnal was 1-0 with no earned runs allowed and 10 saves. The I's had nine hits in the game. Only Smith and McCarthy had multi hit games. McCarthy has now had two hits in his last three games. He's on a four game hit streak.

The I's and Shorebirds play again tomorrow night at 7:05 in the finale of their four game series with fireworks to follow at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. All of the Intimidators action this season can be heard on KI Web Radio available only at www.intimidatorsbaseball.com.
