Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws brought an end to their three-game losing streak Tuesday night, beating Charleston 6-3.
Lakewood (14-12) entered the game with just three hits in their last 50 at-bats with runners in scoring position, but that all changed in the fifth inning.
Down 3-0, Adam Buschini led off with a walk and scored on a Domingo Santana double to cut the deficit to two. Then with two outs Jeremy Barnes and Leandro Castro singled home runs, and Anthony Hewitt doubled in the go-ahead tally to make it 4-3 BlueClaws.
With his RBI single Barnes extended his hit streak to 13 games.
Lakewood would add two more insurance runs in the sixth. With runners on second and third and one out, Jiwan James hit a sacrifice fly to deep right, and the throw in was dropped by the cut off man allowing a second run to score and extending the lead to 6-3.
Jarred Cosart gave up two hits and three runs (none earned) over four innings in his return from the disabled list. Colby Shreve (2-0) finished the game for Cosart and picked up his second career win in his third appearance.
Shreve was terrific in his five innings, giving up only two hits and a walk, and at one point retiring ten RiverDogs (11-15) in a row.
Charleston starter Shaeffer Hall (1-1) began the day with the lowest ERA in the South Atlantic League, but was hit hard by the BlueClaws. In 5.1 innings Hall allowed eight hits, six runs (five earned), and four walks.
Wednesday at 11:05 am LHP Nick Hernandez (2-0 2.12) will take the mound for the BlueClaws against RHP Graham Stoneburner (0-3 2.61).
