Today: The first-place Gnats play their earliest start of the 2010 season. It is game two of a four-game series and an eight game road trip.

Last Night: The Sand Gnats fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds 2-1 in 13 innings, in the Gnats first extra-inning game of the year. Starter Taylor Whitenton was excellent, firing six shutout innings for the Gnats. The Gnats took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning when SS Wilmer Flores drove home Juan Lagares who had reached on an error.

Now Pitching: Armando Rodriguez will make his sixth start for Savannah this evening. The Gnats are 2-3 when Rodriguez starts and have supported him with 4.6 runs per game. Rodriguez was at his last time out, striking out seven Lexington Legends over 6.2 innings while giving up one run on five hits in a 4-1 Savannah win. Rodriguez pitched for both Kingsport and Savannah in 2009. With Kingsport a year ago, he was 3-1 with a 2.96 ERA with 36 strikeouts and 20 walks in 45.2 innings. Promoted to Savannah on August 27th, he finished the year with a dominant three-start performance in which he allowed just five hits in 16.2 innings and struck out 24. The Mets signed Rodriguez as a non-drafted free agent June 6, 2007.

First Things First: The Gnats have had at least a share of first place since beating Augusta on April 21. The Gnats, who have the best record in the SAL, lead the Greenville Drive, who were rained out Monday, by one half game for first place in the SAL Southern Division. Greenville is scheduled for two games with the Augusta GreenJackets today.

Close and Scarce: Last night was the Gnats' first extra-inning game of 2010. Savannah also fell to1-4 in one-run games, 0-2 on the road. Last night was the first time Savannah has lost a game in which it led after seven innings as Savannah is now 15-1 when taking a lead into the eighth inning.

Hot: Jefry Marte has hit safely in his last seven games over which time he is 9-25 (.360) with two doubles and 3 RBI.... Alex Gregory has hit safely in six straight games. In those six games, he is hitting .454 (10-for-22) with one double and four runs scored.

Not: Pedro Zapata is two for his last 24 (.083)... After an 0-5 Monday, Jeff Flagg is now 0-for-his last 19 since a solo home run in the eighth inning of the Gnats' 11-2 loss to Hickory on April 26. ... Sam Honek's fourth inning single last night was his first as a Gnat, he is now 1-for-15 with Savannah after arriving from extending spring training.

Monday Superlatives: Monday's game was the longest the Gnats have played by innings (13) and by time 3:35 this year...Gnats pitching set a new season high with 18 strikeouts... Taylor Whitenton tied an individual high for a Gnats pitcher with nine strikeouts, a mark Jimmy Fuller accomplished twice....The 13 runners left on base by Delmarva were a new season-high by a Gnats opponent.

Tough Guys: Yesterday, was the first day off for Alonzo Harris. Juan Lagares is the only Gnat who has played in every game in 2010.

Four for Sure: Savannah is 15-1 when scoring four or more runs and 1-8 when scoring three runs or fewer. When Gnats pitching allows fewer than four runs, the team is 13-4.
