Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
DELMARVA, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws scored six runs in the sixth, and five more in the eighth en route to a 14-3 Memorial Day shellacking of the Delmarva Shorebirds.
The BlueClaws racked up 21 hits on Sunday, two short of a team record. Catcher Sebastian Valle continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-5 with a second inning home run and four RBIs.
Leandro Castro had a solo shot in the sixth, and Domingo Santana added a two-run blast in the same inning. The three homers are a season high for Lakewood.
Jonathan Singleton had a good day at the plate as well with three hits, two doubles, and a run batted in. Jonathan Villar went 3-for-6 with three RBIS, and Jiwan James was 4-for-6 with one RBI.
The BlueClaws took an early lead on a two-run second inning blast by Valle off the scoreboard in center for a 2-0 advantage. Delmarva cut the lead in half with a solo home run by opposing catcher Michael Ohlman, but Lakewood would pull away in the sixth.
Castro's solo shot led off the inning and made it 3-1. Valle then doubled home two, Stephen Batts brought in another run on a single, and Santana hit his two-run blast to complete a six run inning and put the BlueClaws up 8-1.
Lakewood wasn't finished. The BlueClaws scored five times in the eighth and added another run in the ninth to complete the rout.
Julio Rodriguez picked up his first win in the SAL, allowing just one run and striking out six in five innings. Kenny Moreland gave up six runs in five innings for the loss.
The BlueClaws now head to Hagerstown for a big series against the Suns. Both teams are tied for second place, 3.5 games back of first place Hickory.
At 5:35 pm the suspended game from May 27th will be completed. Play will pick up in the bottom of the fifth with the BlueClaws batting with two outs and trailing 5- 3. 30 minutes after that game concludes another seven-inning affair will be played. RHP Jarred Cosart (5-1, 3.12) is slated to start against Suns lefty Dan Rosenbaum (1-1, 1.53).
