Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Blue (21-9) fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors (22-6), 113-103, on Sunday afternoon.
With two minutes left in the game, two-way player Deonte Burton split a pair of free throws to trim the Blue's deficit to 106-99. The Warriors' Kendrick Nunn converted free throws on the other end and the Blue couldn't cut back into the deficit.
"Obviously disappointed in the loss, [but] Santa Cruz is a really good team," Head Coach Mark Daigneault said. "The game gave us a lot of things that we can get corrected and improve upon and we need to use our week of practice to do so."
Burton led the way for Oklahoma City with a team-high-tying 18 points, five assists and four rebounds. Richard Solomon also scored 18 points for the Blue and added 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double and 12th of the season.
Nunn was the leading scorer for Santa Cruz with 24 points off the bench.
Consecutive three-pointers from Bryce Alford halfway through the second quarter cut Santa Cruz's lead to 51-40, but the Warriors closed the quarter outscoring the Blue by 12 points and led 65-46 at halftime.
Alford was one of five in double figures for the Blue, scoring 17 points and adding four steals and four rebounds.
Oklahoma City forced 16 second-half turnovers, scoring 19 points from them.
Up next, the Blue will face the Northern Arizona Suns on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Cox Convention Center.
