Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release

The Alexandria Blue Anchors pitching staff combined for the first shutout in franchise history with a 4-0 win over the Duluth Huskies Wednesday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The win for the Anchors gives them a 3-10 record in the first half.

It took a while for both teams to start scoring as both starting pitchers held the opponent scoreless through the first six frames.

In the bottom of the seventh, Alexandria was able to get on the board and break the game open, scoring four off the Huskies' starter Luke Vandermaten. Catcher Aaron Gretz led off the inning with a double and was advanced to third when Aarom Overbeck singled on a bunt. Kris Goodman came up with runners on the corners and no outs and hit a fly ball which was too shallow to score Gretz. Georgie Salem, in his first game with the Blue Anchors, singled through the left side to bring in Gretz and give the Anchors a 1-0 lead. Shortstop Andrew Sohn singled to load the bases which brought Albert Baur to the plate. Baur lined a ball into the left-center gap to clear the bases to give Alexandria a 4-0 lead.

On the mound, Tyler Beck, making his second start of the season, was superb. In six innings of work, he allowed just four hits and walked one while striking out four Huskie batters. Scott Sanderson (1-1) entered in the seventh inning and picked up the win going three shutout innings in relief. He didn't allow a hit and walked three while striking out one batter.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game- Tyler Beck - The Fairmont, Minnesota native and Augsburg College product was able to deliver his first quality start of the 2013 season. It was just his second start of the year and in his two starts he has gone a combined 11 innings allowing just one earned run, striking out seven, and walking just one.
