Lexington County Blowfish News Release

The Columbia Blowfish were held without a hit until the seventh inning as they were defeated at the hands of the Florence RedWolves 8-0 on Thursday night. The Blowfish have now lost four straight since defeating the division-leading Fayetteville SwampDogs on Sunday.

Mathew Campbell (1-0) shut out the Blowfish (3-8, 12-27) through eight innings of one-hit ball. Campbell did walk four batters but struck out seven. The Blowfish were held to just three hits on the day; they collected two off RedWolves (3-5, 18-18) reliever Kit Carter in the ninth.

Campbell got all the run support he would need in the first inning. Adam Matthews doubled home a pair and later scored on a wild pitch as part of a four run inning off Columbia starter Blake Forslund (0-4). Forslund went 4.1 innings allowing seven runs on nine hits along with five wild pitches. Forslund also walked six batters, part of the ten free passes awarded by Blowfish pitchers in the game.

Blowfish manager Lee Gronkiewicz made a surprise move when he pulled Carlos Santana from third base onto the mound to pitch. Santana got the two men he faced to pop up to end the seventh inning.

Gronkiewicz said of the move, "We were having command issues and I was tired of watching it."

Despite his success on the mound Santana went 0-3 at the dish in the game, snapping a four-game hitting streak.

The Blowfish return to Capital City Stadium on Friday to host a double header against the RedWolves. Thursday was the second of six straight games between the division rivals; the only break comes for the All-Star Break on Sunday and Monday.
