
Edenton Homers Three Times, Shoots Down the Pilots

EDENTON, NC - The Steamers mounted two separate comebacks against Peninsula on Thursday night to claim the 7-6 victory. Edenton hit three home runs to aid their comeback effort and Esteban Guzman pitched 4.1 innings in his Steamer debut to earn the win.
Jordan Glover made his fifth start of the year for Edenton and after a one, two, three top of the first, he ran into trouble in the second. Chas Crane walked and Terrell Joyce was hit by a pitch. Chris Cowell singled to load the bases and Jimmy Rider drew a bases loaded walked to get Peninsula on the board. Steve Hodgins followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Joyce and give Peninsula a 2-0 lead.
Edenton took their first lead in the bottom of the third. Ryan Brenner walked and stole his way to third base before being driven home by a Joey Wendle double. The hit extended Wendle's hitting streak to 13 games. Adam Giacalone walked with one out and Nathan Burns, after being named Rawlings Hitter of the Week for week six, hit a three run home run to give Edenton a 4-2 lead.
Glover ran into his second bump of the game in the top of the fifth. Steve Hodgins walked to begin the inning. Jake Cave doubled Hodgins to third and Jared King scored Hodgins with an RBI groundout to make it 4-3 Steamers. Tristan Moore singled to plate Cave and Crane hit a sacrifice fly to score Moore after he moved to third on back-to-back wild pitches. The sacrifice fly gave Peninsula the 5-4 lead.
Glover Pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three hits and five runs (all earned). He walked four and struck out three. Esteban Guzman made his Steamer debut in relief of Glover.
Guzman allowed another Pilot run in sixth inning when Phil Ruzbarsky singled and moved to second on a passed ball. Hodgins singled Ruzbarsky to third and Cave brought him home with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4 Peninsula.
After that sacrifice fly by Cave, Guzman went on to strike out the next six of seven hitters he faced. He struck out the side in the seventh and eighth before yielding a walk in the eighth.
Edenton, in the bottom of the sixth pulled Glover off the hook for the loss by way of the long ball. Saunders reached on an infield single and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher Chris Cowell of Peninsula. After a Mejia strikeout Kevin Whitehead hit his first home run of the season, a two run shot that tied the game at 6-6. Brett Christopher followed two batters later with his first home run of the season to give Edenton a 7-6 lead.
Guzman finished the game, pitching 4.1 innings to earn his first win of the season. He allowed three hits and just the one run on one walk and he struck out six.
Ethan Carter earned the loss in relief for the two long balls by the Steamers in the sixth inning. He feel to 1-1 on the year.
With the win Edenton improves to 31-9 overall and 12-1 in the second half of the season. Edenton travels to Peninsula tomorrow night to take on the Pilots again at War Memorial Stadium.
