Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced Thursday that Fayetteville SwampDogs infielder Eric Grabe and centerfielder Cody Davis will both compete in the CPL Home Run Derby, part of the CPL Fan Fest on Sunday, July 17 at J.P. Riddle Stadium in Fayetteville.

Grabe, in his third year with the SwampDogs, has two homeruns on the season and six in his CPL career. Davis, a first-year SwampDog, has one homerun and leads the SwampDogs with 21 RBI's.

The Home Run Derby will feature 16 CPL All-Stars - eight American and eight National - competing in three rounds. The first two rounds will be eight outs apiece, with players able to use either wooden or aluminum bats. Any homerun with aluminum bats will be one point, while a homerun with wooden bats will be three points. After two outs are made with the aluminum bats, players will only be able to use the wooden bats.

The top three high scores from each team in the first round will advance to the second round, while the top two players in the second round, regardless of team, will advance to the finals round. The final round will consist of ten outs, and the player with the most overall points combined at the end of all three rounds will be declared the champion.
