Lexington County Blowfish News Release

The Wilmington Sharks defeated the Columbia Blowfish 1-0 in five innings on Wednesday night. The game was called early due to rain and lightning in the bottom of the fifth inning to just barely make the game official.

Justyn Carter, who was named to the Coastal Plain League All-Star team Wednesday, scored in the bottom of the first off a double by fellow All-Star selection Kenny Bryant to give the Sharks (6-3, 19-18) an early lead.

That was the only run allowed by Blowfish (3-7, 12-27) starter Austin Pritcher (2-4). He allowed four hits without a walk while striking out two going the distance in the abbreviated game.

Pritcher was one-upped by Zach Taylor (2-1) of the Sharks. Taylor pitched all five innings and also allowed four hits but the Blowfish could not get a run across in the early goings. Taylor did not walk anyone and struck out five Blowfish batters.

Carlos Santana had one of Columbia's four hits to extend his hitting streak to four games. All-Star Zach Smith, on the other hand, went 0-for-3 on the day and had his 11-game hitting streak snapped.

Wednesday was the first abbreviated game the Blowfish have played this season. It was the second time the Sharks had been cut short; they lost to the Florence RedWolves in six innings in a first-half contest.

The Blowfish travel to Florence on Thursday. The Blowfish and RedWolves play four times in the next three days including a double header in Columbia on Friday. The teams play each other six straight times over the next week with a two-day break starting Sunday for the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game in Fayetteville.
