The Wilmington Sharks and Columbia Blowfish got about two innings of play in the books Wednesday night before the lightning started coming from the distance. The teams got five innings of play in before the lightning and rain arrived and the game was called, giving the Sharks a 1-0 win over the Blowfish in CPL South Division action.

The only run of the night came in the bottom of the first inning, when Sharks leadoff man and 2011 CPL All-Star Justyn Carter singled before scoring on Kenny Bryant's RBI double three batters later to give Wilmington the lead.

Sharks starting pitcher Zach Taylor improved to 2-1 on the year with five strikeouts in the books over five complete innings of work.

Along with Carter and Bryant, Jake Mayers and Alex Freedman also tallied a hit a piece for the Sharks four hits.

Chase Vergason, Brison Celek, Greg Harrison and Carlos Santana had one hit apiece to account for the Columbia offense.

The Sharks continue their four-game homestand on Thursday night, when it's Atlantic Coast Chiropractic Shirt off our Back Night as well as another Fat Tony's Thirsty Thursday with $1 beverage specials. Gates open at 9 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
