Blowfish Drop Sixth Straight Game
June 15, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
The Columbia Blowfish (4-11) lose their sixth game in-a-row Wednesday night, losing on the road, 4-3, against the Fayetteville SwampDogs (9-5)
The SwampDogs struck first in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by 2B Eric Grabe off Blowfish starter John Long (1-1).
But the Blowfish countered to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by SS Carlos Santana scoring 3B Tyler Jackson.
The fielding problems returned for the Blowfish in the bottom of the fourth inning. Throwing errors by Santana and CF DeMontez Jones led to three runs for the SwampDogs. It was the 11th straight game the Blowfish have committed at least one error.
The Blowfish would add a run in the fifth and sixth, as SwampDogs starter Brewer Carter (1-1) would limit Columbia to seven hits, three runs, and struck out four, in five innings to pick up the victory.
Long and the Blowfish bullpen held Fayetteville scoreless after the three-run fourth inning. Long pitched six innings, giving up seven hits, four runs, and struck out four. Alex Brooks, Scott Robinson, and Jeff Murray combined for two innings without giving up a hit.
Blowfish Head Coach Lee Gronkiewicz was ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning after arguing a call made by umpire Evan Barger, ruling SwampDogs LF Nick Crucet safe on a stolen base.
SwampDogs' closer Cody Davis would get the Blowfish out in order in the top of the ninth inning, securing Columbia's tenth loss in eleven games.
The Blowfish have Thursday off and return to action at home on Friday against the Florence RedWolves.
