Marlins Lose Heartbreaker to Sharks

June 15, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Morehead City Marlins News Release

Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins lost for the first time in over a week on Wednesday night, falling to the Wilmington Sharks by the score 2-1 in a high-strung affair. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Marlins, moving Morehead City to an overall mark of 8-7 on the season. The Marlins' bats could not ignite the fire that had been steadily burning for the past six games, scoring one run on seven hits.

Despite scoring only two runs, Wilmington's offense did well. The leadoff hitter for the Sharks reached base in each of the first seven innings. Former Marlin and Sharks shortstop Justyn Carter was impressive at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.

The Marlins and Sharks turn around to face each other in Wilmington tomorrow. Big Rock Stadium next hosts a Marlins home game on Friday and Saturday, as the Marlins welcome the Gastonia Grizzliesfor the first time in team historyand the Florence RedWolves. Friday will, of course, be another Facebook Friday at the ballpark, as well Progress Energy Night. Saturday will be Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina Night and WRNS Night. Gates open at 6 o'clock, and start time is set for 7:05 p.m. for both matchups.
