COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish topped the Thomasville HiToms 5-2 Tuesday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. With the win the Blowfish stay in the hunt for the second half west division crown.

The HiToms got things started by scoring a run in each of the first two innings off of Blowfish starter Griffin Jones. Jones went just two innings giving up two runs on two hits while striking out one.

The Blowfish answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first on an RBI single to left from Tony Price scoring Michael Wilson. The Blowfish then took the lead for good in the third. Joshua Miller blasted a two run homerun to left to give the Blowfish a 3-2 lead. Price then followed with a double and scored on a Gabe Loweree RBI single.

Tucker Ward then took control of the game on the mound going four innings not allowing a hit or a run while striking out two to get the win. Joshua Knab then threw one perfect inning while striking out a batter. J.D. Osborne then threw the final two innings to get the save giving up just two hits while striking out three.

The Blowfish travel to Martinsville on Wednesday, then return to Capital City Stadium on Thursday as they host the HiToms. First pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at blowfishbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.

The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
