Marlins Come Back, Walk-Off Past Pilots

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - Sam Ott ripped a single to left field scoring Geoff DeGroot in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Morehead City Marlins (4-10 second half, 14-27 overall) walked-off over the Peninsula Pilots (6-9 second half, 18-24-1 overall) by a score of 4-3 Tuesday evening at Big Rock Stadium.

With two outs and nobody on base in the ninth, Pilots reliever Joey Andrews walked three consecutive Marlins before Ott laced his game-winning single to left field.

In the bottom of the eighth with two outs and nobody on base, Ryan Cranmer launched his sixth home run of the campaign to tie the ball game at three after Peninsula had scored two runs in the top of the frame.

The Pilots got on the board in third inning when Andrew Amaro doubled and scored on a single by Josh Silver. Morehead City tied it in the bottom of the fourth when Ott walked, stole second base and scored on a single by Cranmer.

Then in the seventh inning, DeGroot walked and scored on a double by Jarrett Higgins to take a 2-1 lead before the Pilots scored two of their own in the eighth to retake the lead at 3-2.

William Prince (1-1) picked up the win for the Fish tossing a scoreless ninth inning and striking out two. Andrews (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Cranmer finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Chace Mitchell also finished with two hits.

The Marlins are back in action tomorrow as they hit the road to take on the Edenton Steamers at Historic Hicks Field. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. with the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.

Notes: DeGroot finished 0-for-0 with four walks... It was the Marlins third walk-off victory this season... It was the first time the Marlins defeated the Pilots at Big Rock Stadium this year in four attempts.
