Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs won their seventh consecutive game on Tuesday night, defeating the Petersburg Generals 13-5 to improve to 9-2 in the second half.

All-Star lefty Dan Smith improved to 5-0 on the season, working seven strong innings and picking up four strikeouts. He once again lasted an entire start without surrendering a walk, as he has allowed just four base-on-balls in 42.2 innings of work this season.

Fayetteville scored two runs in the first on two errors by Petersburg's defense, as the Dogs had a two-run lead before recording a base hit.

Two more runs came across in the second inning, extending the lead to 4-0 in favor of the SwampDogs. Joe Ciamacco (Ohio State) picked up an RBI-single, as he finished the night 2-3 with a double, four runs scored, two stolen bases and two runs batted in. John Howell (Binghamton) plated Ciamacco with a line drive double down the third base line.

The Generals made it 4-3 midway through the sixth, but the flood gates opened in the Dogs' half of the frame as they batted around to score seven runs. Five SwampDogs recorded hits in the inning, including a bases-loaded double by All-Star shortstop Reed Harper (Austin Peay) that scored three runs.

Fayetteville added two more in the seventh before Petersburg plated two in the eighth, but the Dogs held on for their seventh straight win in the second half.

Harper has gone 7-10 with seven RBIs in the last three games for Fayetteville.

The next SwampDogs home game is on Friday, July 20th as it's the 8th Annual Family Fun Night at "The Swamp." The first 500 fans receive the newest edition of the Fun-Go Bobblehead. It's also Scout Night, where scouts in uniform receive $1 off general admission ticket pricing.
