
Annunziata to Compete in HR Derby

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today the participants for this year's Home Run Derby to take place on July 22, and Marlins first baseman Sal Annunziata has been chosen to compete.
Annunziata is second in the league with six home runs and 29 RBIs. Since July 2, the freshman from Seton Hall University has cracked four home runs, including two on July 6 against the Fayetteville SwampDogs in game one of a doubleheader. In that game, the Bronx, NY native hit a three-run home run in the third inning, then hit a walk-off three-run home run in the seventh inning to propel the Marlins to a 7-4 victory. This spring Annunziata hit three home runs in 51 games for the Pirates.
2012 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby Rules
- Three Rounds, Eight (8) outs per round (round 1&2) / Ten (10) outs (round 3)- Six (6) Hitters per All-Star Team- Either a Home Run or it's an Out- Can use aluminum bats for up to two (2) outs per round- Home runs with wood = 3 points- Home runs with aluminum = 1 point- Points from every round rollover to the next round.
Round 1:ÃÂ Six (6) hitters from the National and Six (6) from the American- Top two (2) hitters from both clubs advance to next round
Round 2:ÃÂ Two (2) hitters from the National and Two (2) from the American- Top two (2) hitters (combined points from round 1 and 2), regardless of All-Star team, advance to final round
Round 3:ÃÂ Top two hitters in derby thus far- Hitter with most total points after round three (points from rounds 1-3 combined) is crowned Champion
The 2012 Coastal Plain League All-Star Festivities will feature several attractions over a two-day span. During Fan Fest on Sunday, July 22, fans can look forward to the All-Star Home Run Derby, while on Monday, July 23, the main attraction will be the 2012 CPL All-Star Game. Both will be held at the home of the Wilson Tobs, Historic Fleming Stadium in Wilson, N.C. The Morehead City Marlins are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
