Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars still can't solve the Kamloops Blazers, as they fell to their B.C. Division rivals 3-1 at the CN Centre Saturday. It was the Cougars ninth-straight regular season home loss to the Blazers.
Kamloops scored a goal in each period, and Dylan Ferguson made 25-saves, as they snapped their six-game losing streak. Josh Maser scored a power-play goal in the second period for the Cougars in the setback. Taylor Gauthier was tagged with the loss, stopping 29 of 32 shots.
Saturday was the Cougars' second-straight loss, as they slipped to fifth in the B.C. Division and two points behind the final Wildcard spot in the Western Conference.
The Blazers opened the scoring midway through the first period, Kyrell Sopotyk, finishing-off a two-on-one rush at 8:21. They doubled their lead midway through the second, when Connor Zary scored as he was laying on his side.
Maser scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season late in the middle frame, banging in a rebound from the top of the crease at 15:16 to make it 2-1. But the Blazers added an insurance-marker in the third, Martin Lang scoring from the wing at 8:54.
Saturday's road win was the Blazers' first since November 23rd, snapping a 13-game winless skid. The Cougars have split the first four games of their six-game home stand.
