Blazers Beat Silvertips 3-2 In Overtime

The Blazers picked up a huge two points on Friday night in Everett, beating the Silvertips 3-2 in overtime. The win ended a three game losing streak for Kamloops (0-2-0-1) and a streak of 11 consecutive losses to Everett.
Deven Sideroff scored the game-winner at 1:25 into the extra frame, as he walked into the slot and wired a shot over Silvertips goalie Mario Petit to secure the victory. Other Blazer goals came from Matt Revel, who scored late in the first period after a defensive-zone turnover by Everett, and Quinn Benjafield, who put home a rebound to the left of Petit in the second period.
Blazers goalie Connor Ingram, en route to his 34-save performance and being named the game's third star, made a number of huge stops in the first to preserve a scoreless game, before his group began to take control against the U.S. Division-leading Everett Silvertips.
"Connor made a couple good saves and we felt better about him behind us. Then we got a turnover and Matt Revel got a good shot. Then we started to roll and had a real good second period, maybe our best of the year", Blazers Assistant Coach Mike Needham said post-game on Radio NL.
The Blazers led 2-0 in the third before two goals by the Silvertips sent the game into overtime. Carson Stadnyk scored on the powerplay just under seven minutes into the third, before Remi Laurencelle tipped in a Kevin Davis slap-pass with only 30.7 seconds left in regulation.
"Last minute there, 6-on-5, they made a hell of a play. You have to tip your hat at times", Needham said. "We deserved to win the game, and I think that was the message on the bench. I thought we controlled the play, we had the puck for most of overtime, then Deven Sideroff made a heck of a play and had a great shot to win the game.
"I thought we deserved to win - they came back and tied it up... but we stuck with it. We didn't throw in the towel and scored a huge goal in overtime. It's a huge two points."
Blazers Head Coach Don Hay earned his 200th win behind the team's bench in the victory.
Kamloops now heads home for the next four games, starting with games Saturday and Sunday night. The Vancouver Giants will be in town for tomorrow night's matchup. Puck drop is at 7:00pm at the Sandman Centre.
