Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 4-3 on Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, winning its 43rd game of the season and inching closer to a CHL record.
The Rockets scored three times in the second period to erase a one-goal deficit and pull away from the Giants, improving to 43-16-3-0 on the season and keeping them in first place overall in the WHL, a single point ahead of Victoria.
Justin Kirkland had a goal and two assists to lead the offense, while veteran 20-year-old Tyson Baillie hit a rare milestone, scoring a goal for his 300th career regular season point in the WHL.
Baillie, who has played 319 regular season games, all with the Rockets, is just the fifth Kelowna player to surpass 300 points in the 25 year history of the Rockets franchise.
Rookie Jordan Borstmayer also scored, as did Rourke Chartier, who scored his 20th of the season. Brodan Salmon earned the win in net, facing 25 Vancouver shots while Kelowna fired 30 at the Giants' net.
The Rockets now need seven wins in their final 10 games to post a CHL record as the only team ever to win 50 games or more in four consecutive years.
Kelowna is back in action on Saturday night at Prospera Place when they host the Spokane Chiefs. The Rockets will honour alumni Gavin McLeod and Duncan Keith with WHL Alumni Achievement Awards prior to the game. McLeod will be in attendance.
Tickets are available for the game through www.selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
