
'Blades shuffle roster prior to start of road trip

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president & general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has released defensemen Greg Poupard and Steve Kovalchik and have placed defenseman Jeremy Swanson on the 7-day injured reserve list.
Kovalchik and Poupard each skated in one game with the Everblades on March 14 in Florida's 6-2 win over the Columbia Inferno.
Kovalchik ended his first professional game with two penalty minutes and two shots on goal. The 23-year-old joined the Everblades after tallying 21 points (2g, 19a) in 35 games during his senior season at Wayne State. The point total matched his career high with the Warriors, having also scored 21 points during the 2004-05 campaign when he notched a career-high six goals. The Riverview, Michigan native compiled 67 total points (10g, 57a) and 80 penalty minutes in 141 career games during his four-year career at Wayne State.
Poupard finished Tuesday night's game with one shot on goal. The 23-year-old completed his senior season as co-captain of the Warriors squad, and notched seven points (1g, 6a) in 33 games. The native of Jackson, Michigan scored seven points in each of his last three seasons at Wayne State, and overall during his four-year stint with the Warriors tallied 24 points (6g, 18a) and 166 penalty minutes in 133 career games.
Swanson heads to the IR after suffering effects from a previous concussion following Florida's 7-2 win over Columbia on March 10. The 21-year-old has registered four points (1g, 3a) in 14 total games with the Everblades this season. The native of Red Rock, Ontario has also seen action in 11 games at the American Hockey League level with the Rochester Americans.
The Everblades return to action on Friday, March 17 when they travel to Augusta to take on the Lynx at 7:35 p.m. from the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
